“What will it cost me to hire you?” is often one of the first questions people ask up front when they speak to me or my assistant. Unfortunately, there isn’t one simple, quick answer, since it really depends on the complexity and the seriousness of the case.
I promise I will be able to quote you an exact fee, after talking with you and asking you a number of questions about your case.
I’ll need to understand the facts so I can consider all the possible defenses in your case, to estimate how many court dates it may take to resolve, and whatever legal resources I may need to provide you with the strongest defense possible. I also charge more for second, third, or other cases with prior offenses, or related felony charges where mandatory jail time is a serious risk.
Though our rates are quite competitive, I am probably not the cheapest lawyer you can hire. But if you want someone with my level of experience, who studies hundreds of OUI police reports a year and can quickly and surely identify any flaws in the state’s case or police procedures, you should at least talk to me. All I do is represent people just like yourself, accused of drunk driving in Massachusetts.
Fighting and winning OUI cases at trial, is what I do. Given that OUI cases are among the most complex and technical areas of the law, it makes sense to hire someone who knows this rapidly changing and complex legal area backwards and forwards. Your freedom, and license to drive are at risk.
If you hire a general legal practitioner in your town who maybe pleads out a couple of criminal case a year in between real estate closings and writing up wills, you’ll probably never be sure if you got a fair deal, or if your case was winnable, or should have been dismissed in the first place.
After speaking with you, I will be able to quote you two different fees, based on whether you plan to fight the charges or plead guilty. I do understand that the cost of an attorney is an expense that you weren’t planning on. So I offer fees at a flat rate to assist you with your budgeting, and assure you that they’ll be no surprises.
I accept cash, checks, or credit cards which many people appreciate for the ability to pay this unanticipated expense over time. We also offer discounts for those who can pay the trial fee up front.
In any case, the initial phone consultation with me is free, so there is no risk on your part. You will learn just what your rights and options are — I’ll give you specific advice as it applies to your situation. When we are finished, if you’re not convinced that I will be able to protect your rights to your complete satisfaction, then you can simply decide not to hire me. That will be it, and you won’t owe me anything.
DUI Penalties in Massachusetts can be harsh. The money you save may cost you dearly in extended license loss, fines, penalties, or worse. Trusting the prosecutor or a judge to treat you fairly without strong legal representation on your side is taking a real chance.
